Pre-Sales Engineer

Heartland is looking for Pre-Sales Engineers who thrive on helping clients reach their business goals.  In this role, you’ll assist the sales team in identifying new opportunities to drive revenue growth, and educate our clients on the suite of products and services we offer.

At Heartland, a pre-sales engineer, (solution engineer/technical sales engineer), is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the sales team during the pre-sales process. The primary role of a pre-sales engineer is to act as a technical advisor and product expert, helping to articulate the technical and functional capabilities of the product, services, and solutions Heartland offers to their customers and potential customers.

Main job responsibilities of a pre-sales engineer include:

  1. Conducting product demonstrations and presentations for potential customers, highlighting the features and benefits of the product.
  2. Providing technical expertise and guidance to the sales team during the pre-sales process, helping to identify customer needs and requirements.
  3. Collaborating with the sales team to develop customized solutions that meet customer needs and requirements.
  4. Responding to technical inquiries and requests for information from potential customers.
  5. Providing technical support to the sales team during the sales process, including assisting with RFP responses and other technical documentation.
  6. Identifying and resolving technical issues or problems that arise during the pre-sales process.
  7. Collaborating with the product development team to provide feedback and suggestions for product improvements based on customer feedback and market trends.
  8. Maintaining a deep understanding of the product and industry trends, and staying up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and innovations.
  9. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with potential and existing customers, acting as a trusted technical advisor and consultant.
  10. Participating in industry events, conferences, and trade shows to promote the product and engage with potential customers.

To be successful as a pre-sales engineer at Heartland, one should have the following skills:

  • Strong technical background
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams


  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical sales, pre-sales engineering, or support role
  • Uses moderate domain/solutions knowledge
  • Applies Solution Selling concepts to customer situations; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understands policies and practices related to role and shares ideas for improvement
  • Higher level technical skills than typical sales criteria

Preferred Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
